About the Author

Michael was born in Nenagh, Co. Tipperary and has lived in many counties all over Ireland. He started his banking career with AIB in Castletownbere, Co. Cork in 1966. He has resided in Galway since 1981. After a successful career in banking, Michael set up his own financial consultancy practice for private clients at Woodquay, Galway City in 2001. He also lectured in Family Finance at GMIT to Adult Educational Classes. 

He started therapy training in 2008 and has worked exclusively as a psychotherapist since 2014.

Michael studied Philosophy, Mediation and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy before embarking on Counselling and Psychotherapy.

He took an Introduction to Psychotherapy and Counselling course at GMIT, Galway followed by a Foundation in Psychotherapy course with Galway Counselling Services (Norman Warden leading) at Furbo, Connemara, Co. Galway.

He then took a three-year Diploma course in Biodynamic, Humanistic and Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy with the Tracht Foundation (Patrick Sell leading) based in Kinvara and Galway City. This included much experiential work, projects, group therapy and individual client work. The Bodywork part of the course was led by Heiner Eisenblath. Michael took the opportunity of working in Let’s Get Talking Galway during his pre-accreditation phase.

He took additional Couples Therapy Training with Hedy and Yumi Scheffler, Washington, D.C. “Crossing the Bridge”, an adaptation of the Imago Couple Therapy method.

Also “Couples Therapy for Therapists” training with Bob and Rita Resnick, Gestalt Associates Training Los Angeles, California. and a further course “Two become One and then there are None” also with Bob and Rita.

Michael took Trauma Therapy Training with the World-renowned Trauma and Sensorimotor specialist, Janina Fisher. The courses he took were “Trauma-Informed Stabilisation Treatment” and “Traumatic Attachment & Regulation”

His Mediation training was with Brendan Schutte, (Catalyst Consulting) well known mediator and trainer in the U.K. and Ireland.

Michael works with adult clients from all backgrounds, walks of life and with many and varying issues. His principal area of therapy work is Trauma. 

He is an accredited member of the Irish Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (IACP) and the Irish Association for Body Psychotherapy.

He has also worked as a Professional Mediator.
